ELECTRICAL FAQ'S

Q:How do I know if I have a safety switch is installed in my switchboard?

A:Circuit breakers are often confused with safety switches and although their apperance is similar their function is completely different.A circuit breaker will not protect you from electric shock.Determing if you have a safety switch installed in you switch board is important for the protection of you and your family.Safety switches are compulsory in most circumstances but there are still a few homes without one installed so please check you switchboard.

circuit breaker only for circuit protection only.No personal protection.

circuit breaker/safety switch combination. For circuit and personal protection.

safety switch for personal protection only.

As you can see from the photos above all have an on/off tab.Only the safety switches have a test button in place.(the small blue button on the lower two photos)

If you have only circuit breakers in your switchboard then it is important for you to have a safety switch installed.

If you are unsure then please call us to come out and inspect your switchboard.

Q:My safety switch wont reset what should I do?

A:The most common form of tripping is a faulty appliance plugged into an outlet.

The first step is to unplug all plugs from all sockets(dont just switch the outlet off)Then try to reset safety switch. If your safety switch resets go and plug in your appliances one at a time until the safety switch trips. Then either repair or replace the faulty appliance. If your safety switch still wont reset please contact us.

Q:How often should I test my safety switch?

A:Your safety switch should be tested every three months by pressing the test button.Your safety switch should test immediately.Reset your safety switch. If not please contact us.(a good reminder is to test it when you get you electricity bill).

Q:My smoke alarm beeps intermitantly?
