AIRCONDITIONING AND ELECTRICAL
FAQs Air Conditioning.
How often should I clean my air filter? Depending on the environment or the air purity, filters should be cleaned twice in a season. In a commercial situation it should be done monthly. The cleaner the filters in a air conditioner are kept the more efficient it is, therefore keeping running costs down. My air conditioner does not work? Check the isolation switch next to the air conditioner is switched on. Check the circuit breaker in the switchboard is in the on postion. Are the batteries in the hand controller o.k. Have you got the mode set correctly on the hand control. eg, cooling in sumer, heating in winter. Have you set the temperature correctly on the hand control. Can I save money when using my air conditioner? During hot weather, turn your air conditioner on early in the day rather than working it harder once the area your trying to air condition warms up. Adjust louvres on split system air conditioners so they disperse air downwards when heating and upwards when cooling. Clean the air conditioners filters regulary. When purchasing your air conditoner check the star rating, the more stars, the more energy efficient. Does turning the power off, at the isolator or circuit breaker for my air conditoner, save me money? It is ok to turn the power off, especially if you are away for long periods, this will save you a small amount of money. When power is on to the air conditioner it remains in a standby mode like your t.v. The air conditioner is also fitted with a crankcase heater to ensure the oil in the compressor remains warm thus reducing compressor wear on startup. If the air conditioning units power has been turned off make sure it is turned back on at least 12 hours before use. What is soft or dry mode on my air conditioner? Soft or dry mode is used to de-humidify the room or space. The unit does this by air conditioning for a minimum amount of time, which allows collection of moisture from the air without changing the temperature noticeably. The outdoor unit drips water, is this normal? It is completely normal for the outdoor unit to drip water, particularly when operating the air conditioner in heating mode. Also in cooling mode on days when humidity is high the flare connections and service ports on the outdoor unit condensate, and this can cause a small amount of water. What size air conditioner do I need to condition my room or house? The correct size unit for a room or house is not only decided by room area, but also many other factors. Such factors include: amount of glass, aspect the room faces, are the ceilings and walls insulated, how many people are in the room, is there alot of electrical equipment generating heat in the room and so on. The best way to get the correct size is to seek professional advice from qualified persons. What is a back-to-back installation? This is when the outdoor unit is placed directly below the indoor unit reducing the amount of interconnecting pipe and wiring used to cooect the two units. Why choose ducted air conditoning over split systems? Ducted air conditoners are designed to condition more than one room within your home or office. The indoor fan coil unit is mounted in the ceiling space and cool air is distributed through the duct work into each area of your home. If you are after discrete entire house cooling than a ducted system may be for you. What is zoning in a ducted air conditioner. Zoning allows you to turn on and off the air conditioner in certain areas of the house. This is achieved by the use of zone motors in the duct work which allow or restrict the flow of air to the areas being turned on or off. For example, many houses have what is called day/night zoning, during the day the bedrooms may not be in use so they are swithed off saving energy because the air conditioner is not trying to condition such alarge space. This can also save on initial cost of purchasing your ducted unit, the size required can be reduced because it only has to condition a smaller area at any one time.
